Scooters are the step through scooter made famous by Vespa of Italy but often now made in China or Taiwan. The scooter has some advantages over motorcycles in there lower centre of gravity and step through style makes them easier to maneuver and hold upright in traffic as well as get on and off. They also typically have better luggage storage options. In Asia a small scooter can easily carry a family of 6 with dad driving mum and mom-in-law perched sidesaddle on the back one with a baby in the arms and 3 small children standing in front of dad on the running board! This tends to be illegal in countries such as the US! A scooter can be a fantastic commuter option though as gas hits $4/gallon. Scooters can come in all sizes from 50cc air cooled ligh weights: to 550cc water cooled touring scooters which include heated handgrips and blue tooth enabled radio!
Back in 2002 SoloTrek developed the 8-foot-tal Solo TreK : a Buck Rogers jetback device which allowed the pilot to fly in the standing position powered by an engine which would fly you 150 miles at 80mph on one tank of gas. Possible uses include access over roads made impassible by disaster or land mines or even tourism: I’d love to have a go on one but I don’t think they are in production yet.
So whether you want to fly through the traffic on ground or above it check out an air scooter today!
