You may not know this but the term “ex-Marine” is reserved for people who were dishonorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps. Thus it has a negative connotation. One of the Marine Corps mottoes is “Once a Marine, Always a Marine”. I still consider myself a Marine even though I left active duty about 25 years ago. The proper term to use is “former enlisted Marine” or “former commissioned officer Marine”. News organizations in the US are frequently guilty of this faux pas so it’s a common mistake.
Curious - no Ididn’t know that - and I didn’t use the term implying disrespect. I know ex-Army people in my country (we don’t have Marines) and they call them selves that ex-Army or ex-Services.
That’s OK Lissie. I wouldn’t expect you to know so that’s why I explained it to you. Even the conservative Fox News screws it up from time to time and gets mail about it and they should know better.
