Gas has just
hit $4/ gallon in the US - which really doesn’t evoke much sympathy in the rest of the world. In the UK gas Now a US gallon is 3.7litres. So
$4/gallon fuel priceequates to $1.08 / litre wow what a shocking fuel price Not!
So in Australia you would pay (in the city) around US$1.50 litre in a city - in the bush its more like $2/litre. In New Zealand they are paying around $1.60. In France they pay the equivalent of $2.40/litre - so that’s basically twice the price that are causing uproar in the US. In fact for years the rest of the world have totally disliked the arrogant assumption that they will always have cheap gas prices. Its not because America is a oil producer either: Australia and the UK have significant oil and gas reserves - and pay a lot more at the pump that the American motorist - because their governments collect a lot of taxes of petrol particularly. Petrol is seen as a luxury good taxed in the same way as cigarettes and luxury clothing - you can afford it you can afford to pay top dollar for fuel.
