Burlington Iowa flood has not yet peaked according to offiicials. The Mississippi has not peaked so the Burlington Iowa Flood is not over yet.
Flooding has caused huge damage across the river in neighbouring Illinois. Burlington, Iowa are still sandbagging hoping to avoid the worse, but levees have already broken at nearby Gulfport and Oakville. Bush is offering Federal aid but you have to wonder about people’s skepticism about that giving what happened, more to point did not happen, to New Orleans after the Katrina flooding. Of the real economic cost won’t be known until the flood waters recede but reports are that the floods were quicker and probably more devastating than the 1993 mid-West flooding. National guardsmen and prisoners have been deployed to reinforce the levees and keep the flood waters out - good luck Burlington Iowa
