Viennese Waltz is featured in So you think You Can Dance. That would have been something to see the Viennese Waltz is one of the most difficult of the ballroom dances and most of the contestants on So YOU Think you can dance don’t come from a partner dance background
Viennese Waltz is the oldest of the 5 standard ballroom dances: it is from this turning, fast moving waltz - made famous by Strauss that the English Waltz developed to a much slower pace. Later the foxtrot and quickstep also developed as variations of the orginal. The tango has a completely different history but thats a different story. The Viennese Waltz is designed for the large circular ballrooms of the Austro-Hungarian empire of the time. The standard Viennese waltz consists of normal and reverse turns joined by a change step. The partners should be in full body contact the whole time: which is quite difficult when you are moving in time to music at 56bpm
