Season 2 of Americas Best Dance Crew premiered recently on MTV. The first season of Amercias Best Dance Crew did well for MTV so its odd that they chose to run the season 2 premier of the dance show on Saturday afternoon Its great to see yet more dance on premier TV : hip hop, locking, latin, salsa its all hot at the moment
Dance shows just seem to keep going from strength to strength : what all started with Come Dancing in the UK - a show which ran for over 30 years I think has been transformed out of sight. On Come Dancing - dancing of course was only ballroom dancing but now we see every form of dancing there is ! I personally have never seen some of the newer hip hop trends such as popping and locking until I saw “So You Think You Can Dance” Australia’s version. Best Dance Crew hasn’t made it to Australia yet I’m not sure that it will: I don’t know that the country is strong enough in the hip-hop group dance style to make it and cheer leading really is a very minority sport here. In fact New Zealand although much smaller may be a better candidate as NZ has a lot of Pacific Island and Maori groups who have adopted the hip hop style only their traditional dance tradition: often with excellent results. As it is Iam going to keep my eye on Americas Best Dance Crew to see how it pans out!
