June 6, 1945 was D-Day, WWII On D-Day the allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy code named Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword. Troops from England, Canada, New Zealand and United States were included in this long planned WWII operation. Most Americans won’t have heard of the Battle of Attu, however this week a joint team of American and Japanese searchers have travelled to remote Attu in the Aleutian Islands to try to recover the remains of over 2500 Japanese WW2 victims from the Battle of Attu. Read the rest of this entry »
